Making a Difference

In communications, public relations professionals have the challenge of satisfying an organization as well as the public. Most PR professionals’ goal is to evoke a behavior change. This is why public relations is considered an advocacy. Advocacy is the act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, an idea, or policy.

Public relations professionals have the skills to impact the world. One way that this is implemented is through event planning. The Back to School Drive is one event that has the potential to make a difference in the community and possibly transpire across the world. The Back to School Drive will positively impact the hosting company, CableCore United, because it will increase their involvement in the community. The special event will allow CCU to set a positive company image. Also, the company will spread awareness and potential customers might take interest.

Through the success of this event we could broaden our client base at Starlight Strategic Communications. Showcasing our company’s skills will also present networking opportunities. Most importantly, we can learn from the event and broaden our knowledge.

The purpose of the Back to School Drive is to promote education and give back to the community. The distribution of school supplies will benefit the students because it gives them the necessary tools to do their best this upcoming school year. The students will also be encouraged by knowing that someone cares about their education. Promoting education and giving back locally could possibly serve as a mechanism for change on a global perspective. So many children in the world are denied an education because of poverty. With the proper coverage of this event, people could organize something similar in their community and make a difference.

  1. I admire the fact that you include what was talked about in class about "Advocacy" into your this blog. I feel as if that was very professional of you. Also, it fits in well with your event "Back 2 School Drive." However, I am a bit confused on what will occur during this event.

Reading the name "Back 2 School Drive" I'm aware that its an event design to help students in school. The part thats a bit gray to me is what will actually take place at the event. What will the students receive, are people allowed to bring things to give away as well. More so what will the students receive. Overall, I think this is an awesome event students can never have to much school supplies.

  3. Thanks for taking the time out to respond to my blog post. The special event has been revised to Back to School with Sesame Street. This event is a live videotaping of Sesame Street and a school supply giveaway. The goal of this event is to promote educational television programming, as well as to support the financial demands that are required for children to attend school.

The children will have the opportunity to interact with the Sesame Street characters and also take photos. There will be games, scavenger hunts, face painting and more. At the end of the event students will receive a bag filled with pencils, paper, crayons and a couple of other items. CableCore United is excited, and is anticipated a big turn out. We hope to see you there.
